The end of my week flew off the rails a bit, and it wasn’t until late in the evening that I realized I hadn’t sent my newsletter out.
As a parent, some days are like that. There are so many things, both big and small, that need immediate attention. It’s easy to get swept up in the mundane tasks of the day and completely forget about the one big thing you really needed or wanted to do.
This newsletter is something I always want to do. It’s part of my work as a food blogger and it’s also something that makes me feel good. I enjoy siting down each week to chat with you and connect with this community. I will always show up, even if it’s a little bit late sometimes.
So, thank you for joining me each week!
The end of my week was completely re-shuffled when my 8 year old’s lingering cold turned into bronchitis. We have medicine now and a giant bottle of gummy Vitamin C and I even dragged out the humidifier I used when my kids were toddlers.
The soft hum and gentle mist of a humidifier at night is instantly comforting, isn’t it?
We’ve been needing soup at my house for what feels like months of coughs and sniffles, so I thought I’d offer you some too.
Glass Noodle Soup
My sister-in-law made a version of this soup for us when she was visiting last winter. My brother and his family had come down to LA to soak up some sun over Christmas, and it rained almost the entire time. It was a bit of a bummer, but the soup Nami made us one rainy night was delicious. This version of glass noodle soup is very simple, with a delicious garlic & ginger broth with soy sauce.
Instant Pot Farro Soup with Garlic Ginger Broth
This farro soup is probably only appealing to the adults in your family, but you should make it anyway and feed the kids something else. If you’re craving something healthy and nourishing, this bowl of farro and kale with a stunning lemon-ginger broth will set you right.
Instant Pot White Bean Soup
This Instant Pot white bean soup is made with dried white beans and just a few ingredients. One review from a reader says, “I'm feeling under the weather today, and this is EXACTLY what my body wanted. Thank you!!!!”
Dinner Last Week
I’m always curious about what other families are eating. Aren’t you? Here’s what my crew ate last week.
Monday: I was recipe testing a vegan sloppy joe recipe made from lentils and plant-based meat. It was decent, but not ready for the blog yet. We also had Trader Joe’s frozen french fries, coleslaw and pickles.
Tuesday: White rice with scrambled egg mixed in, easy weeknight tofu, frozen egg roles and some leftover cabbage that I quickly sautéed with sesame oil.
Wednesday: Pan seared shrimp + tortillas and taco toppings
Thursday: Instant Pot White bean and cabbage soup + cheese and crackers
Friday: Grilled steak seasoned with Lawry’s seasoning salt, boiled potatoes with chives and roasted carrots.
Watching
We finally got around to watching The Bear on Hulu and loved it. It took two episodes to get into the kitchen drama/comedy set in Chicago, and then we were hooked.
Hope you have a restorative weekend. The weather has officially cooled and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it stays this way. The kids put out a spider web and I think we’ll finally get pumpkins and gourds for our front porch.
